Share your story with your child.

Pick your book from the shelf to get started. Its first question is already waiting for you, and what you write here becomes its first page.

Stories from Mom

What's the quiet hope you carry for them that you haven't said out loud to anyone?

This is the one you'd whisper, not announce.

Email optional: add it and we'll send a code to keep this page, or begin without it. 2 books for every child are free.

Every answer becomes a page worth keeping.

Each answer gets its own page, set in type made for reading, with room for photos and the line worth pulling out. Keep the finished book as a print-ready PDF and print it at home or at any print shop.

Stories from Grandma · for Eleanor

What I can't wait to teach you

I can't wait to show you how to fold dumplings the way my mother folded them, seven pleats, no more.

You will be terrible at it the first year. So was I. What I hope you teach me: how to sit on the floor and not be in a hurry to get up.

A sample page from a sample family: her words, on their own page, as she wrote them.A spoken answer prints with a code beside it that plays the recording. This sample code opens our home page.

Rather say it than type it? Say it.

Tap Speak your answer and talk. The words write themselves into the answer as you go, and the recording is kept with it. In the printed book, a code beside the answer plays it back, so the stories keep the voice that told them.

An example of a Saturday email.

Share the link. Let them tell theirs.

Your book is your voice. Send its link to everyone with stories of their own, by text, email or the family group chat, and each of them writes a book onto the same shelf.

  • Nothing to sign up for

They open the link, say who they are, and start with one question. No account, no password, no app.

  • Their own book, in their own words

Each person writes a book of their own. It saves as they write, and their device brings them back to it.

  • You hold the door

Make a new link whenever you like and the old one stops working. Books already written stay on the shelf.

To Dad

Hi Dad! I'm making a book of family stories for Eleanor, and I'd love to include yours — as Eleanor’s grandpa. It's a few thoughtful questions — no account or app needed.

A sample invitation. The note is written for you; change it to your own words before you send it.

One person. A whole shelf of books.

Each book is one voice. Yours, and every one written through your link, stands together in one library for the person they're all for: a grandpa's, an aunt's across an ocean, the neighbour's who became family.

We never assume who belongs.

Put the first book on the shelf

  • Letters from Dad, written by Dad

Questions families ask

Something we haven't answered? Write to hello@ourfamilybook.org.

Write one page and see
What happens to the page I write on the front page?

It waits on this device while we email you a code. Once you're in, it opens as the first answer in your new book, ready to save. Your words stay on this device until then.

Can I speak instead of typing?

Yes. Tap Speak your answer and talk: the words appear as you speak, and the recording is kept with the answer. In the printed book, a code beside it plays the recording.

What's the Saturday email?

One question every Saturday at 7am your time, only if you say yes. Reply to answer, photos welcome, and it goes into the book. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Do the people I invite need an account?

No. They open the link, say who they are to the person the book is for, and start answering. Their draft saves as they write, and the same device takes them straight back to it.

Who can see our stories?

Only you, and the people you send a link to. Links are long and unguessable, and nothing is listed or searchable publicly.

How do I get a printed copy?

Every finished book is a print-ready PDF. Print it at home or at any print shop — the pages are set for it. We don't sell printed copies ourselves yet.

What happens if I stop paying?

Nothing you wrote is taken away. Every book stays readable, printable and downloadable as a PDF, and the first 2 books on each child's shelf stay yours to keep writing. The others are read-only until the library is unlocked again. Paying $55 once means you never have to think about it.

Who owns the book?

You do. The words and photos belong to the family who wrote them, and the PDF you download is yours to keep, copy, and print as many times as you like.

Write the first page tonight.

One question, a few minutes. The rest of the book can wait until you're ready.

We'll email a code. No password, no card.
